QA Automation Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer to build and own test automation for a complex, multi-layer enterprise software product. This role is focused on automation rather than manual testing. You will be the first dedicated QA hire on this product, responsible for designing automated test coverage from the ground up and integrating it into our development pipeline.

Our platform spans a distributed .NET microservices backend, a React front end, a Windows desktop (WPF) client application deployed independently at each customer site, several backend Windows services, and infrastructure/configuration-driven automated workflows (VM provisioning, playbook-driven orchestration, and post-recovery data scanning). The product integrates with numerous third-party enterprise systems and exposes secured REST APIs to customers. We ship new features and fixes frequently, and third-party integrations change under us regularly, therefore, regression risk is constant and automated testing is essential.

You will work closely with the development team to define test strategy, build automation frameworks, and make "tests as part of every release" a reality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build automated API test suites covering functional, contract, and regression testing across a large microservices backend
• Test secured REST APIs, including OAuth2/OIDC-based service account authentication flows
• Build and maintain automated UI test coverage for a React-based web application
• Develop an automation approach for testing a Windows desktop (WPF) client application installed independently across multiple customer environments
• Automate testing for background/Windows services (scheduled jobs, notification/cleanup processes, etc.)
• Build end-to-end and integration tests that validate multi-step workflows spanning several services and external system integrations
• Design tests for infrastructure- and configuration-driven workflows, including automation that provisions and configures virtual machines and runs orchestrated, playbook-based processes
• Set up mocking/service virtualization for third-party/vendor system integrations so tests can run reliably without live dependencies
• Integrate all automated tests into CI/CD pipelines with proper gating, reporting, and failure triage
• Build a regression suite specifically to catch breaking changes early when upstream/third-party systems release new versions
• Establish test case documentation, defect tracking practices, and basic QA process where none currently exists
• Continuously expand coverage across new features as they are released

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in QA automation (not primarily manual testing)
• Strong scripting/programming ability in C# and/or Python/JavaScript, sufficient to build and maintain test automation frameworks (not just write test scripts using a record-and-playback tool)
• Hands-on experience with API test automation tools/frameworks (e.g., RestSharp, Postman/Newman, RestAssured, SpecFlow, or similar)
• Hands-on experience with web UI automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress) for React/SPA applications
• Working knowledge of unit testing frameworks (xUnit/NUnit/MSTest for .NET, Jest/React Testing Library for React)
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Argo CD, or similar) — build gating, test reporting, pipeline-as-code
• Solid understanding of microservices testing strategies: contract testing, service mocking/virtualization, environment/test-data management
• Comfortable working from the command line on both Windows and Linux, with scripting ability in PowerShell and/or Bash
• Familiarity with testing OAuth2/OIDC-secured APIs and general understanding of identity provider concepts (e.g., Keycloak, Auth0, Okta, Zitadel, Azure AD, or similar)
• Solid Git/version control experience

Nice to Have

• Experience automating tests for Windows desktop applications (e.g., WinAppDriver, TestStack.White, FlaUI, or similar)
• Exposure to virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere or similar) and testing workflows that involve VM provisioning/configuration
• Familiarity with Ansible or other configuration-management/orchestration tooling, and testing automation built on top of it
• Experience testing products that integrate with numerous external/third-party vendor APIs that evolve independently of your own release cycle
• Background in testing infrastructure, storage, backup, or disaster recovery software
• Experience with containerization (Docker) for building repeatable, isolated test environments
• Basic API security testing knowledge (auth bypass, input validation, common OWASP API risks)
• Exposure to performance/load testing tools (k6, JMeter, or similar)
